Strengthening and Conditioning the Canine Athlete Sunday February 19, 2012 @9:00am We all know that agility and other canine sports are physically demanding for our dogs. Physical fitness is a critical factor in reducing the potential for injury and when injuries do occur, physically fit dogs recover more quickly. What can you do to improve your dog's physical fitness? This four-hour workshop is presented by Tania Costa of Canine Wellness Centre (www.caninewellness.com). During the workshop we will look at body awareness and core strength, and why both are important for an agility dog. The basics of major muscle groups, different types of muscle fibers and how they need to work for specific agility equipment will be covered. Learn how to know if your dog has muscle compensations and first aid for new injuries. The dogs fore and hind limbs will be studied in relation to the physical demands of specific agility obstacles. Participants will learn to detect compensations that dogs display before an injury or after incurring an injury. No, this is not science class but understanding the 'why' leads us to the 'how' which is the fun part of this workshop. Exercises to improve your dog's overall fitness will be taught during the workshop, some using exercise balls, peanut rolls and dyna disks. This workshop is not just for agility and sport dogs. Dogs of all ages, from puppies to seniors, will benefit from the information and exercises presented at the workshop. Registration Form (To be printed out, completed and sent with pmt. as instructed on the form.) Note: Consults with Tania Costa, CCRP, VT, CAAP, CMT Tania Costa will be available for a limited number of individual consults in association with the seminar. The consults will be provided on a pre-booked, first-come, first-served basis. E-mail for more information. Problem-oriented Evaluation (30 min. - $65) If you would like to book a private consultation please note this on your registration form. ![]() ![]() |
